Teeth Whitening

Stains on teeth can be classified in one of two ways: extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains appear on the surface of your teeth and Intrinsic stains live between the microcracks in your enamel and deep within your dentin (the layer of your tooth underneath your enamel). Whitening toothpastes and mouth rinses may be able to remove some of the extrinsic stains on your teeth. But only teeth whitening agents can remove the stubborn extrinsic stains and the unsightly intrinsic stains that cause your teeth to look discoloured. Teeth whitening is an increasingly popular and non-invasive dental procedure that can instantly refresh your smile.

Here at Lumina Dental we offer patients the choice between in-chair or take-home treatment.

Whitening gel penetrates your enamel to get to discoloured molecules. Oxygen molecules from the whitening agents react with the discoloured molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them together. The oxygen molecules spread, whitening the entire tooth. As a result, you are left with a brighter & whiter smile.

In-Chair Whitening

For a brighter & whiter smile without the wait, choose an in-office whitening procedure as chemically activated whitening treatment which will offer results in about an hour. It’s ideal for people who want instant whitening gratification or those who have that special event coming up that requires a bright & white smile. You can relax and enjoy whatever you are doing, you can like watch television during this entire process.

  • Opalescence tooth whitening gel contains PF (potassium nitrate and fluoride), which helps maintain the health of enamel throughout the whitening process
  • It is chemically activated, so you won’t feel hot under the uncomfortable light
  • Dentist-applied treatment
  • Provides dramatic results in about an hour

Take Home Whitening

If you would rather use the take-home formula, this also does not require any light. You will simply need to place the gel in your customised whitening trays and wear your trays overnight to sleep. Do this for approximately one to two weeks for wonderful results. Your dentist will walk you through the exact steps and give you a care sheet to follow.
